Art Journal - Clear Eyes

Posted by Susan on Saturday, May 25, 2013 in ,
So I got a bunch of new "toys" (aka supplies) to play with from Scrapbooking Cafe Online so I sat down with my art journal and just decided to see what came out.

I had printed a picture of Taylor Kitsch from his role as Tim  Riggins on Friday Night Lights and decided to do an FNL inspired layout to use it. Here's how it came out (click for a larger image):

Fans of the show will notice a lot of references on the page that might not be clear to those who didn't watch the show - and if you've never seen it, it really is a great show I recommend checking out.

For this two-page spread I used some dictionary print tissue paper in the background and then used a mix of acrylic paint and gelatos over top in various shades of blue and the vibrant yellow. I used a crafters workshop template (the reverse chicken wire) and molding paste to create the fencing pieces. Then I added the embellishments, including rub-ons, stamped letters for the title, a crumpled note in the corner and lots of distressing on the note and the photo.

Hope you like it. Please check out the video for this project on my youtube channel »

Black Currant Card Set

Posted by Susan on Friday, May 17, 2013 in ,
Here is another set of notecards I made. This set has 6 cards, 2 of each design shown below. For this set I challenged myself to use the DCWV Black Currant stack, which I've had for a while because I thought the paper was beautiful, but never managed to find a layout it worked on. Soooooo, enter notecards :D

Art Journal - Snowman Land

Again, this is me playing with some new techniques on my art journal. If you'd like a detailed walkthrough, please visit my youtube channel for the video on this project.

Here I got to play with both my Dylusions and Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist ink sprays, texture paste, glitter, gesso, paints, and paper piecing.

Just a fun little page to celebrate the end of winter.

Serenity Notecards

Posted by Susan on Tuesday, May 14, 2013 in ,
I wanted to make a few small notecard sets to donate to a local fundraiser. I challenged myself to use the DCWV Serenity Stack paper, which I won as part of a DCWV monthly challenge a while back. It isn't my typical colour palette, so I struggled a bit, but I think it worked out okay. Here is the first set of notecards, and more will be coming if I can manage to get them done by Thursday.

I think they turned out pretty well and although I don't expect them to fetch a lot at the fundraiser, I hope someone likes them enough to bid on them.

Happy Birthday Nanny

I made this card for my Grandmother who turned 95 in May! It's relatively simple, although I wanted to try a technique where you stamp/emboss a design on vellum and then colour it on the backside of the vellum to see how it plays through. I determined I either don't have the right tools for colouring, or it's just not my "thing" - but at least I tried it. (Click on the image below to enlarge)

Products used:
Bazzill Cardstock
Inkadinkado and Stamping Barn stamps
Stampin' Up Ink and Embossing Powder
Martha Stewart Punch
Spellbinders die
